Our Community: In A Year
VIPER programming connects current students with new ideas, leading researchers, and opportunities to explore energy from multiple perspectives. The listed programming is closed and exclusive to our community. These social events give students the chance to form friendships across class years and create the kind of connections that make the program feel like home.
New Student Orientation
New Student Orientation welcomes incoming VIPER students to Penn and to their cohort. First-years spend the day with their peers and VIPER Peer Orientation Advisors, exploring campus through the VIPER Student Board's signature Scavenger Hunt and learning about the resources available to them across the College and Engineering.
Our Recurring Events
Each fall, the VIPER Student Board organizes a First-Year Outing — a chance for new students to connect with their cohort outside the classroom from the very start of the semester.
VIPER hosts regular Class Dinners for every cohort, bringing students together with their classmates throughout their time in the program.
The Frontiers of Energy Research Poster Session is co-hosted by VIPER and the Vagelos Institute for Energy Science and Technology (VIEST).
One of VIPER's favorite winter traditions, the event offers a fun way to spend time together and enjoy the season as a community.
The VIPER Student Board and VIPER Peer Advisors co-host bake nights that combine course and research advising with community-building.
The entire VIPER community comes together during the week before Thanksgiving break to share a meal and reflect on what we are most grateful for.
VIPER Day
VIPER Day is an annual celebration bringing the full VIPER community together for a day of connection, reflection, and shared pride.
Connecting With the Penn Community
Throughout the year, VIPER collaborates with the wider Penn Community to co-sponsor dynamic, interdisciplinary events.
Energy Week at Penn
Energy Week is jam-packed with energy events from partnerships across campus! The week is hosted by the Kleinman Center and Vagelos Institute, and VIPER sits on the Energy Week Steering Committee.
Climate Week at Penn
Climate Week at Penn has a tradition of offering opportunities for every member of the Penn community to learn about and act on the climate crisis. Join us to find your place in the climate movement.
