TEST CONTENT

Welcome, Prospective Students!

We are thrilled that you are interested in VIPER at the University of Pennsylvania. This page is designed to help you become familiar with the program and evaluate whether or not VIPER is a good fit for you. First of all, we want to emphasize that previous experience with research or familiarity with energy science is not required in order to consider applying to VIPER. Instead, as you navigate this site, we encourage you to reflect on who you are and what you're interested in.

There are certain defining characteristics of students who thrive in the VIPER program. VIPER students:

  • Are curious.
  • Take initiative.
  • Solve problems.

Curiosity.  Research is driven by questions. VIPER students are innately curious and ask challenging questions of themselves and others in order to better understand how the world works and how humans can live sustainably.

Initiative.

Problem-Solving. The challenge of designing sustainable energy is an enormous and complex undertaking that requires innovative solutions and collaboration across sectors. VIPER students want to identify the problem areas and contribute to developing solutions.

Please take time to look at our Frequently Asked Questions and peruse the remainder of our site. Don't miss the student research page.

Don't hesitate to email Dr. Michelle Hutchings, VIPER's Managing  Director if you have any questions.

If you're able to visit campus, please let us know so we can meet you and answer any questions you have about the program. See this page for details.
